Our History
A half century ago, after WWII, there was a shortage of hospital space in Richmond, Virginia. A creative group of local citizens felt a community hospital was the perfect way to honor and memorialize those who fought and died. Through their generosity and visionary leadership, Richmond Memorial Hospital was built in 1954 and the School of Nursing opened in 1961.

Thirty seven years later, after joining the Bon Secours Health System, the school (now Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing) has continued a legacy of compassion, respect, generosity, and excellent nursing education as inspired by our founders. The alumni have been instrumental in illuminating the path we have taken for the past five decades.
This year marks the 50th anniversary.
We are proud to celebrate such a milestone with an anniversary gala on October 14, 2011 and through the establishment of the Gloria H. Booker Scholarship. If you have not seen our 50th Anniversary video, we hope that you will enjoy it. We hope that we will see you at the gala.
