Make a GiftThe Haitian Health Care Ministry Fund (HHCMF), dedicated to maternal and children’s health needs on Haiti’s Central Plateau, recently began a matching grant program to multiply its efforts to combat the highest infant and maternal mortality rate in the Western Hemisphere.

In partnership with the Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation, we help connect parishes in the Richmond Diocese, and others with a calling for relationship with Haiti communities, to support trained midwives and early infant care in Haiti’s Central Plateau. The grants help to provide full access to trained and certified Haitian midwives and work with the Haitian communities to enhance the care pregnant women receive.

What is the HHCMF matching grant program?

We connect parishes to Haitian communities to provide pregnancy care through a state-of-the-art mobile clinic or through a permanent midwife

in residence. In many communities, the first time the women receive medical care is when they visit the mobile clinic.

Funding a permanent midwife residing in a village/ community requires about $9,000 to $10,000 yearly. That covers supplies, room and board and salary.

Parishes, organizations or individuals can contribute $4,500 to $5,000 toward the cost, and the rest will be matched for up to five years. At that time, the sponsor may fully fund the midwife or continue contributing.

What are the Matching Grant Program's goals?

1. Place Haitian midwives for service to the poor in the Central Plateau.

2. Provide prenatal, midwifery and infant health care services to
Haitian communities in the Central Plateau of Haiti.
