Make an Impact

Ensure a healthier community for everyone

Good health starts at home and healthy residents make our community better

Our wellness programs and community health services help every person access the resources to live a healthier life

A healthy community depends on many resources coming together, including access to quality health care, functional and affordable housing, education, employment, public safety, and recreational and cultural opportunities. Inspired by our Catholic roots that teach us each person is sacred, Bon Secours is playing a lead role in our communities to address the priorities that improve people's health and quality of life.

Our health and wellness services extend well beyond the walls of our Bon Secours facilities, reaching into neighborhoods across the Richmond area. Because of donors' generosity, we can provide a number of important preventative care, health screenings and wellness resources out in the community to help people access care and support when and where it's most convenient for them. And often free of charge, to further help those without insurance or the ability to pay.

That's the impact your donation will have. You'll help people get the tools and support they need to make healthier choices and prioritize their good health. Your gift means everyone can have equitable access to health care, improving the collective well-being of our entire Richmond community.

Bon Secours provides a number of health and wellness outreach efforts across the Richmond area to help residents live better lives. We depend on donations to support important programs that help meet the needs of our communities.

Care-A-Van Mobile Clinic

Uninsured adults and children in the Greater Richmond area have a free and convenient option for medical care at the Bon Secours Care-A-Van. This donor-funded mobile clinic provides primary care, urgent care and preventative care services, including immunizations, treatment for chronic illnesses and even social work support.

It takes hundreds of thousands of dollars to operate the Care-A-Van and to provide more than 24,000 patient visits each year. Your donation means everyone can get the high quality health care they need, near their own neighborhood.

The Care-A-Van also provides medical care for asthma, family planning, sports physicals, children’s health insurance enrollment, and health education services. The Care-A-Van team is bilingual (Spanish/English) and composed of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, patient care technicians, licensed practical nurses, drivers, registrars, trained medical interpreters, registered dieticians and outreach workers.

Sarah Garland Jones Center for Healthy Communities

A vacant gas station found new life as a vibrant hub for community activity in Richmond's east end. The Sarah Garland Jones Center for Healthy Living has a learning kitchen for classes on healthy food preparation and kitchen safety. A multi-purpose community room hosts meetings, group therapy for various medical conditions and educational opportunities for all ages. The Front Porch Café is a neighborhood spot for coffee, live music and job training opportunities for local youth.

In the spirit of its namesake—the first African American woman licensed to practice medicine in Virginia and co-founder of the Richmond Community Hospital—the Center emphasizes equity within the community to break down barriers, build bonds and help residents of the neighborhood prioritize their good health.

Each year IVNA nurses give over 20,000 vaccinations throughout Richmond and surrounding communities. And thanks to donors like you, adults and children can get immunizations and home health care regardless of their ability to pay.
